Michael Jackson Samples
Being quite a Michael Jackson fan I’ve been listening to his music more so than usual since his death and it got me thinking about just how many other people had sampled his music on other tracks.
After a quick google I turned up this site called WhoSampled the name of the site explains it all really… it’s a community driven site that lists songs based on other songs/artists and links to videos of both songs, telling you where/when the samples are used in the song also.
Worth a look.
BBC Logos
Following my last post I’ve been looking at BBC of old and stumbled upon this site about TV logos… quite an interesting read. Having been involved recently looking at marketing and images it’s interesting to look at how the face of many large companies has changed over the years.
Internet Archive – Wayback Machine
Seen as I’ve yet again updated my website I was just messing about checking old versions of the site on the Internet Archive website.
Browse through over 150 billion web pages archived from 1996 to a few months ago. To start surfing the Wayback, type in the web address of a site or page where you would like to start, and press enter. Then select from the archived dates available.
It’s quite amusing/interesting to look at older versions of websites, why not try it with some popular sites such as google or bbc, you can see just how much technology and the web has grown massively over the last 10 years.
HTC s740 Windows Mobile 6.1 Smartphone
Recently got myself a new phone, should take me up to next year when I’m due an upgrade on my contract… at which point I’ll probably go for an android based phone such as the HTC Hero which is looking pretty good.
Anyway, onto the s740.

HTC s740
It’s a non-touch Windows Mobile 6.1 Smartphone… specs are good with the device sporting a full qwerty keyboard, 3.2mp camera (all be it no auto focus) and GPS among the usual WinMob offerings.
Been using it for a few days now and been fairly impressed, it’s quite a heavy unit but not too heavy… it feels solid but not too bulky. A very nice looking phone with it’s shiny black/grey look and the rear made up of trianular shapes similar to that on the rear of the HTC Diamond, some argue this is annoying as you can’t rest the phone on a desk and use it as it’s not flat.. however I really don’t know who would use the phone like that anyway?
Got a few apps on it, some of which I’ve used before
- Fring – multiple IM client
- Google Maps – mobile version is just as useful as the full bad boy
- Official Facebook app – recently released by Microsoft, it’s not actually that bad
- Pocketwit – quite like this app had it on an o2 Orbit 2 seems slow on the s740 though
Also going to try and get Sygic McGuider on it for SatNav and Skyfire looks like it’s worth a look as a browser alternative to pocket IE.
Battery seems average for a smartphone, at least a day with mixed use some calls, data and GPS use. Will probably get a cradle for the car to charge it in anyway.
Twitter Widget
Just banged in a Twitter badge for now… going to have a look into some plugins.
Smells like Facebook
Whilst upgrading my blog and looking around for plugins and themes I came across this theme which I thought was mildly amuzing. Quite well done it’s quite aptly called Smells Like Facebook.
Flash Flickr Badge Widget
Decided to go with this plugin for now from Erik Rasmussen a bit old it seems but seems to work well.. if anyone knows of any better plugins please let me know!
Upgraded to Wordpress 2.8.1 and new theme
Ok, so I’ve upgraded to Wordpress 2.8.1 eventually.
The new installation is based on Panorama Theme by themocracy seems pretty cool so will stick with this for a bit.
Gonna try out some new plugins, hoping to get something to link in with Twitter and Flickr.
Yet another blog revamp
As if I haven’t already done this several times and not updated anything I thought I’d do it again.
Upgraded to 2.8.1 and going to try out some new themes and some new plugins.
Will probably get it up and running then blog nothing for a year and do the same again like I seem to do every year for no reason.
